Plus GoLand 2026.2 is released, string(int) stays, and creating generative art in Go.

[How I Use HTMX to Build Go Webapps](https://www.alexedwards.net/blog/how-i-use-htmx-with-go) — A practical walkthrough of using [htmx](https://htmx.org/) (think AJAX-style updates driven by HTML attributes) with Go. Opinionated, super Go-specific, and honest about the tricky bits. A good starter on building server-rendered interfaces with incremental interactivity.

[One Postgres for Your App and Your Metrics](https://www.tigerdata.com/go/trial?utm_source=content-syndication&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=golang-weekly-newsletter) — TimescaleDB extends the Postgres you already run so high-volume metrics and events stay queryable at scale. Hypertables, up to 95% compression, continuous aggregates. One database to operate, not two. [Compile-Time OpenTelemetry Instrumentation for Go](https://opentelemetry.io/blog/2026/go-compile-time-instrumentation-v1/) — No more hand-written instrumentation or eBPF agents needed, as OpenTelemetry's compile-time instrumentation for Go is now stable. It uses `-toolexec` to inject telemetry automatically, but v1's library coverage has some limits worth noting.

**IN BRIEF:**

- 14 years ago Rob Pike [proposed removing `string(int)`](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/3939) – there's an update! It's a _likely decline_ but comments are open. The more recent [conditional expression proposal](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/78940) is also looking likely to suffer a similar fate.
- `go fmt` and `go doc` are set to [no longer rewrite straight quotes into 'smart' quotes](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/76975#issuecomment-4983851691) inside comments.
- 🕹️ Luigi Vanacore has released [_Beginning Game Programming with Go_](https://leanpub.com/gameprogramminggolang), a (paid) book about building a complete game using [Ebitengine](https://ebitengine.org/). The code is open source, though, and [on GitHub](https://github.com/LuigiVanacore/beginning-game-programming-go-ebitengine).
- Reddit's `/r/golang` discussed the situation where [passing structs by value is faster](https://www.reddit.com/r/golang/comments/1utgamn/benchmark_surprise_passing_structs_by_value/) than passing pointers.
- [`url.MustParse` has been accepted](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/79946).

[My Thoughts on the Future of Go in the AI Era](https://packagemain.tech/p/my-thoughts-on-the-future-of-go-in-ai-era) — Akin to Steve Francia's [recent piece](https://spf13.com/p/go-the-agentic-language/), Alex argues that "_AI might actually make boring languages more valuable, not less._"
